LIBRARY


The AKGEC Library System consists of a Central Library and 08 departmental libraries and 05 hostel libraries, which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the Institute. All students and employees of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities on taking library membership. The Library, besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and humanities offers library services through its various divisions.

Library Automation:

The Library uses Alice for windows software package, which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations of the Library with Barcode & Biometrics Technology. The Alice consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, periodical, article indexing and OPAC. More than 82,107 bibliographic records of books and other resources available in the library can be accessed through the OPAC. The database of books available in the Library is being updated on day-to-day basis with details of recently acquired books. Records of all the Library patrons have also been created in the Alice for windows package.

Aim of the Library:

A modern library is deemed as a learning resource centre. Its aim is to enable the users to make most effective utilization of the resources. It also provide better services not only to students but also college staff by acquiring materials, processing it in a best possible manner for optimum utilization.

Special arrangements are made to keep the Library open up to 12 O'clock midnight before and during the minor and major examinations.

Knowledge Resources:

The central Library of AKGEC has a wide collection of books on science, technology, humanities, management and personality development. It has a large collection of books, journals, magazines and non-book material. It has over 80577 books in various disciplines, 3738 CD-ROMs, Seminar reports and project reports. It also has a section with more than 1000 books for various postgraduate competitive examinations and personality development.

Central Library subscribes 44 Magazines, 13 newspapers and 165 national journals in print form. A separate Digital Library has been set up with subscription of IEEE/IEE, ASME, Springer, Science Direct, J-Gate, ASTM, McGraw-Hill Access Engineering and also DELNET and BCL membership for use to the students and faculty for online learning.

Question Papers and Model Solutions:

AKGEC Central Library has Question Paper Bank having previous years question papers (Sessional, PUT, and University end semester exams). Also available are their model solutions provided by the concerned faculty members of every subject since April 2007 for the reference of the students and guidance of faculty.

Digital Library:

Digital Library is a place where users can get all the information through a PC and Internet connection. In this Library there are fourteen terminals for access resources / e- resources. Users can browse on the digital library systems and anywhere in the campus and outside campus through EZproxy. A catalogue of CD’s /DVD’s and Audio Cassettes is also available for their references. Our Services:

Text Book Loan Scheme:

In addition to a well-maintained library, the college has a rich Book-Bank exclusively for students. Under this novel project called Book-Bank, every student gets one or two books for each subject issued for full semester for personal use. The books are to be returned at the end of the semester and a fresh set of books is issued at the commencement of a new semester.

OPAC

Online public access catalogue (OPAC) has been introduced for library data search by users. OPAC is a powerful search engine for finding any catalogued information from Alice bibliographic database on-line.

Social Welfare/ SC/ST Book Bank:

This section is particularly for the reserved category students (i.e. SC/ST). The books of this section are kept separate in general and reference/NFI from rest of the collection so that these students can be benefited.

Reference Service:

A large number of Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Dictionaries and other reference aids are available in the Library. Reference staff is also available in the reference section/reading section to suggest resources of information and to assist in locating the required resources. One copy of each title is kept in NFI/Reserved section for the reference of the users with in the library use only. These books can be issued over night only in case of emergency.

News Paper Clippings:

Through this service we provide the latest news published in various Newspaper of the country related to the field of Science and Technology to keep our users abreast with latest development.

Book Reservation:

In case of non-availability of the desired book in the library, the book can be reserved for the user until another user returns the desired book.

Reprographic Service

The Reprographic Service was introduced in the library 1998. This facility extended through an external outfit, namely M/S Sharma Photocopy, who is permitted to operate from within the AKGEC Ghaziabad, Central Library premises.

Faculty Reading Room

The Central Library provides a sufficient and separate room for reading purpose to the faculty members.

Library Membership

All the students, faculty members and employees of the Institute can register themselves for the membership of the Library. All Students, faculty and staff members are issued bar-coded patron cards. Their entitlements, in terms of the number of books that can be borrowed by them, are as follows:

Departmental Libraries:

There are eight departmental libraries, which have collection of concerned subject technical books, projects reports, old issues of journals relating to their branch and magazines.

Hostel Libraries:

There are five Hostel Libraries also, two for girls and three for boys Hostels in which the collections are general books; novels, short stories, competitive books, books for personality development, newspapers and magazines.

Extra book Facility for Toppers

We provide special facility to the topper students by providing three extra books issued for a month.

Institutional Membership/ Inter-library loan

The Central Library offers inter-library loan service to its users for the books and periodicals not available in the AKGEC Library by procuring them from other libraries. The AKGEC library has membership of DELNET and BCL (British Council Library, New Delhi) and have an agreement with them to share the resources among member libraries, which includes lending of its resources to the other libraries.

DELNET:

DELNET has been in operation since January 1988 and was registered as a society in 1992. It was initially sponsored by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India and is currently being promoted by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and India International Centre, New Delhi.

DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries. It aims to collect, store, and disseminate information besides offering computerized services to users, to coordinate efforts for suitable collection development and also to reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible.

AKGEC Central Library is having its annual membership since Jan. 2003 and it is renewed every year. The books, journals and articles etc. can be borrowed from its member libraries on resources sharing basis. Members of AKGEC Central Library can utilize this facility through library. The resources available under DELNET network are:

British Council Library (BCL)

The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations. It is registered in England as a charity). BCL is centrally located in Connaught Place on Kasturba Gandhi Marg. Library is open to the public from Monday to Saturday between l0 am to 06 pm. BCL has a good collection of resources on wide range of subjects including books. CDs. VCDs. Journals, children books and DVDs.

AKGEC Central Library is having its annual membership since Jan. 2004 and it is renewed every Year. AKGEC Library can borrow 30 items i.e. books, CDs, journals, audio-videos etc. from the BCL Library. Members of AKGEC Central Library can utilize this facility through library.

Printed Journals:

Library has been subscribing print journals as per AICTE norms in the field of science, engineering, technology, management and humanities. The journals can be referred with in the library. Beside the current journals library has a rich collection of old journals
