Saksham...The Annual Sports Meet

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

Saksham, the annual intra college sports meet of Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, was successfully organised from October 1, 2015 to October 9, 2015. The event witnessed a massive participation of 1390 students in about 12 different sporting events. A total of 241 matches were played during this mega event.

The opening ceremony commenced with the torch lighting ceremony followed by a well-coordinated march past by the students that enchanted the atmosphere with its energy. This was followed by the release of balloons and a dance performance by the students to celebrate the free spirit and inculcate zeal and enthusiasm among everyone.

All the matches were efficiently managed and were played in the true spirit of the game. Some of the matches witnessed nail biting finishes which showed the resolve of every contingent and further added to the charm of the sports festival. Ashvam, the mascot of Saksham ’15, instilled the message of strength and perseverance amongst the participants, which could be seen in the keenly contested matches throughout the sports meet. An exhibition of the selected posters for the Saksham Mascot Competition was put up on display in the Main Building.

The thrilling football finals between IT and CSE contingents marked the starting of closing day ceremony. IT contingent won the match by 3-2 in the penalty shoot-outs to become the football champions. The football finals were followed by a Tug-of-War match and a 100 m dash (boys & girls). A friendly tug of war match between the faculty members added to the colours of the day. A performance by the college band Euphony mesmerized the spectators.

All the sports and athletic events were keenly contested by all the departments/contingents of the college. The championship trophy was won by the department of Mechanical Engineering who have been winning the championship for the last 3 successive Saksham festivals and hence retained the previous trophy.
