Oorja

Oorja was founded on January 21st, 2006 by some of the then third year students under the guidance of Mr. Prasun Bhargav and with the relentless support of the then second year and first year students of the Electrical and Electronics Department. The sole intention behind starting off with a department society was to provide a channelized growth medium to the students, not merely in the field of academics, but also for other extra curricular activities. With Oorja we aspired to begin a new revolution in the college, which would set the foundation stones for many such endeavors, dealing with the other equally important aspects of a student’s life. We believe that for any event or social activity to be successful, it is imperative for all the departments to bring their best to the forefront, which in turn can bring out the best in others.

The culture of organized departmental societies was a boon for those hundreds who had a mine of talents buried deep within thembut there is no forum to show them on.
Magazine:- Soon after its launch in January 2006, Oorja was all set to bag another first in its kitty. The work on the First Departmental Magazine of the college was started. The first issue of Oorja Magazine came out in March, 2006. Oorja magazine was a huge success. The response this magazine got from the students was heartening.

Oorja society (ENDept.) has conducted the following events during the session 2013-14:-

Fun Fazao:- Introduced last year, this was an online event was quite challenging and fascinating. About 260 students from our college participated. The event included two rounds (both online) in which participants were required to visit Oorja page (Oorja–The electrical Society), by opening the link www.facebook.com/oorja.AKGEC.com and proceed, accordingly. In the pre round, questions in the form of riddles/puzzles/quizzes pertaining to engineering, general science, and current affairs spread over four days were asked. ‘20’ participants were shortlisted for final round. The final round had questions pertaining to college events/features, business world etc. asked. Players earned points (and hence cash prizes) depending on the count of comments/likes recorded in the facebook link.

Robotics workshop: - Oorja, in collaboration with Pheonix & Samveg societies, organized a workshop on 22nd & 23rd of Feb, 2014. It was exclusively meant for first year students. The idea of the workshop was to make them aware about various types of robots and their functioning. In this workshop a complete knowledge about the robots and their working was shared. About 350 students participated in this workshop, and gained valuable knowledge about robots so that they feel confident to participate in robot events organised by various colleges.
